In South Africa most of the cars are stick shift. It always makes me laugh when we watch Amazing Race and the contestants cannot even get the car into first. Driving a car in second gear for ages uses far too much fuel and the engine is then very noisy, cannot understand why anyone would do this. What do you think the ratio is between automatic and stick on the roads?

Driving a Stick Shift
by WTWizard inhas anyone in service ever driven a stick shift?
i have seen plenty of people with stick shifts in my day, and believe me they drive like gas has a negative cost.
first thing i have observed is that a good many pioneers will have the habit of leaving the car in second gear driving down a city block.

How about birthdays?
by molybdenum inhi... i'm a newbie here.
i have been associated with jw's for quite some time however there is one aspect of being a witness that i can't quite come to terms with that is the prohibition on celebrating a person's birthday i have of course read the arguments for this but find them somewhat unconvincing.
is it really the case that everyone follows this direction?

This is just one of their many man made rules. Job's son celebrated he's birthday and yet God pronounced Job to be righteous. You won't hear that in a Kingdom Hall. If you cannot live by all their rules I would sugest that you stay on this forum and learn more about the religion.

Fading is making me WT obsessed......................
by vitty inbecause i still want my family to speak to me, i decided to fade.
it was quite easy to do, i dont live near them so there was problem with meetings and field service.. the problem now is , after 3 years of fading, it having quite a detrimental effect on me.
i have said things to my family about the child abuse stuff , lack of love that sort of thing and they realize i dont go to meetings anymore but because i just cant leave it alone or keep my mouth shut, i end up talking about the org to them when i promise my self not to.

I know the frustrations of having family that just cannot see behind the lies of the WBTS. I wish I could somehow just make them see it all as clearly as you and I do. But for peace I have stopped trying to make them see. I live my life and am really happy. They can see that I am happier now than when I was a JW. That in it self says something. They alwys think that when you leave "the truth" your whole life will fall apart and you'll land up in the gutter. They can see that it's not happening to me, hopefuly they stop to think about that. I will every now and then bring up some food for thought but not everytime I speak to my mom are she will linit her phone calls. Keep your comments to yourself and only take on the big issues. Hope this helps.

Yum!! Brings back memories, my mom use to make truffles at Christmas time before she became a JW. Don't know why she never thought to make them again .
I'm going to try making some. Thanks for the inspiration.

Lazy teenager....need help before I lose it!!!
by snarf ini have a teenage daughter and she is very lazy.
we have to get on her constantly to get her room clean, when asked about her progress, her answer is always"i am working on it".
then when we check, it is usually worse than the day before.

I have the same problem with my son. He is responsible for his own room but because he is busy with exams I thought I'd clean up for him yeatrerday before work. I picked up all his clothes and put them in the wash. I picked up wet towels and put them in the wash. I paked away shoes. I made his bed. Looked under the bed to see if there was more dirty clothes and almost passed out!!! Papers and sweet papers and school work and music cds and old broken toys that he no longer even looks at. I removed everything from under his bed and left it in the middle of his room. I wrote him a letter explaining why I started cleaning up and that I just wanted to save him some time so he could study. I wrote that I was hurt that he lied to me when I asked him if his room was clean. When I got home from work he had picked everything up. We will see how long that lasts!

..A Thought about Jesus,for Christians..
by OUTLAW in..in watchtowerland..the watchtower bible and tract society=mediator to god..if thats true..what good is jesus??
?..none!..he has absolutlely "no use!
"..the wtb$ leads people to think they cannot find god without them!..where is jesus in all of this?
-
Mrs Smith
He contradicts their entire theology both by his words and his life. The WTS are anti-Jesus. They have duped 6 million people into believing they are Christians, and yet none of them want to be with Christ.
Try to explain that to the posters who are debating on the "Christians post here" thread! Sometimes I think of all the years and energy I gave to the WBTS and I just want to cry! I wonder if there is anything in their true about their teaching? Anything?

I reckon getting promoted in the "truth" means you are more likely to leave
by mtsgrad ini reckon getting promoted in the "truth" means you are more likely to leave.. every mts and gilead class i have heard of have had people leave the truth.

I was discussing this with my hubby the other evening. The elders have to sit in JC and hear evidence that the JW doctrine is untrue. How on earth can they stay in when they know what's going on?
